Wine Certification

The Hellenic Institute of Certifications HEL.I.C. has developed a Quality Management System, in accordance with the requirements of the International Standards ELOT EN ISO 9001/2008 and ELOT EN ISO / IEC 17024: 2012, in order for the certification process to be implemented with documented adequacy, impartiality, objectivity, reliability and validity. The “Oinochou” certification scheme is accredited by the National Accreditation System – ESYD.

What is Sommelier?

He is the executive who designs and manages the wine cellar in restaurants, hotels, wineries, etc. Compiles the wine list, takes care of their maintenance and management, advises and proposes wine to customers and undertakes its serving.
The certification of the professional Sommelier, gives the possibility to find employment in high level restaurants and hotels with rich wine cellar that need the knowledge of a specialist. Sommeli ers are the specialized professionals who manage the wineries and dramatically increase the sales of a restaurant by promoting the right wines for every dish.

Examination procedure

The exam includes 50 closed-ended questions. Exam duration 90 minutes. Success rate 75%.

Formal Academic Qualifications

Applicants must have a minimum of:✔ High school graduates or 
Graduates of EPAS, ASTE, or other equivalent schools or
✔ High School graduates – Professional experience 3 years – Study in the postgraduate department of OTEK for winemakers or 
✔ High School Graduates – Professional experience 4 years – Continuing Vocational Training for all the knowledge (theory) corresponding to the 3 main functions of the profession (KEL 1, KEL 2, KEL 3) or
✔ High School Graduates – Professional Experience 2 years – Continuing Vocational Training for all the knowledge (theory) corresponding to the 3 main functions of the profession (KEL 1, KEL 2, KEL 3) or
Ι Graduates of IEK (holders of post-secondary education diploma) specialty Oinochou
 
For Lyceum and EPAS graduates without professional experience and without a relevant degree, it is mandatory to present a certificate of attendance of a vocational training program lasting at least 90 hours in a related subject. For other graduates with relevant professional experience or related degree, it is mandatory to present a certificate of attendance of a vocational training program lasting at least 40 hours in a related subject.
